WordCamp has, for the past 9 years, become a household annual WordPress conference in Uganda, organized by different WordPress meetup communities. The events bring together software engineers, plugin developers, students, business communities and many others to share ideas and best practices on using WordPress. It is always said that crafting one’s path can never be perfected in sheer isolation; the community is such a good enabler.
There are several WordPress meetup communities in Uganda, like Kampala WordPress meetup, Masaka WordPress meetup, Mukono WordPress meetup, Jinja WordPress meetup, and Lira WordPress meetup. These community meetups routinely meet to learn and share ideas on a monthly basis in small groups of 5-20 individuals before an annual conference called WordCamp is organised, where over 200 individuals usually are in attendance. All these WordPress meetups have been independently organizing Wordcamps, thus attracting about 4 WordCamps every year in Uganda.
To this, it is only correct to say that Uganda’s local Information technology ecosystem is growing, sponsors are getting on board, general attendance is increasing, and the conference for July 2026 is WordCamp Masaka. If you are on a cliff and have not yet considered securing your ticket, here are 3 important ways attending WordCamp Masaka will accelerate your professional career.
Tracking your business and technical skills
Learning a complex topic from online courses and videos is a good thing but Wordcamp has always been a premier event that brings together experienced business leaders who have already solved even more complex technical problems, which you may be experiencing at the moment.
WordCamp sessions are designed to align with practical insights that attendees are able to apply immediately to themselves.
- Master the intricate art of using full site editing, use of WordPress custom blocks and fields, master hosting server technology and many others
- Learn to strategically position your freelance business to an international audience, get insights on how best you would price your services to build an online rewarding consultancy.
- Learn best practices to handle critical system errors by understanding troubleshooting practices.
International collaboration is just a click away
There are discussions that happen informally in the walkways; sometimes these discussions become the infamous valuable part of attending WordCamp. Attendees get to connect with their prospective clients, global partners, or mentors who usually stay longer in their lives even when the WordCamp event ends. These unexpected meetups and discussions turn into real-life professional collaborations with friends, which later are capable of expanding your business portfolio when strategically harnessed.
The hidden Job Market at WordCamp
WordCamps attract sponsors who do it because they want to tap into the professional talent of attendees. Many businesses set up their booth and hand out swag to send a message of connection and awareness, but also send out a message that they are willing to onboard capable WordPress developers to join their team. Attending WordCamp therefore gives you unlimited access to those who are hiring managers, CEOs, and business owners. It is possible to send your resume directly to the business owner instead of sending a generic job email to a company which do not know you.
Secure Your Spot
Attending WordCamp Masaka should be taken as an investment in your career rather than just a conference. The possibility to alter your professional career can be summed up in this one-day event on the networks you can build, the knowledge you gain, and the opportunities that you can easily uncover.
Best wishes and I hope to see you in Masaka
